COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY - NAVY CONVERSION

#6939/60963 wich are the serial and / conversion number. Gun was converted in 1876 by Colt using the Richards Mason 1871-1872 patents to caliber 38 Centerfire. Standard 7 1/2" Octagonal barrel. The gun was made as a .36 percussion revolver in 1862 which makes it a Civil War gun. The original “36 CAL” stamp is visible on the upper left triggerguard. Retains about 20% of the original blue finish on barrel and cylinder, with light traces of color case on the frame. Cylinder scene is very good. Wooden grips in very good condition with most of the varnish remaining (there is ding on the left side of the grip, and a small filled chip on the bottom corner). Action is excellent and the bore is bright with deep rifling. All serial numbers on metal parts are present and correct. Wedges were replaced with new Colt factory wedges "without springs", all of which were "unnumbered", as is this one. Has the R.W.M. (Inspector Commander Richard W. Meade) + anchor stamped on the bottom of the barrel meaning the gun was sent to the Brooklyn N.Y. Navy yard for inspection by Meade after being converted by Colt. Only 54 N.M. 1861 Navies are known to have been sent to Brooklyn for inspection!! Today all of the Richards-Mason converted Colt Navy-Navy revolvers are very scarce, especially the R.W.M. inspected ones!! Very fine condition!
