SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 BAYONET
Model 1873 bayonet with a third issue standard model 1885 standard scabbard. It was made for use with the Model 1873, 1879 and 1884 Model Caliber 45-70 Trapdoor Springfield rifles. It will also fit the M1878 Hotckiss, the M1882 Caffee-Reese and other types of rifles in Cal. 45-70. They must be stamped U.S. to prove U.S. ownership. The model 1873 bayonets were finished deep blue. Scabbards of the period were of three basic and distinct types; The Hofffman patent model 1870 (that saw use into the mid 1870's), the Model 1874 scabbard and the Model 1885 standard issue scabbard. Bayonet and scabbard are U.S. marked and in excellent condition.
