1964 First Edition. H/C. Used. Slipcase shows signs of storage, book in near new condition. In First Edition state and in an oblong format quarto format. Double-column French language text by André Maurois and General James Gavin. Illustrated with 20 color reproductions printed on high-gloss paper and with commentary opposite. Handsomely produced in a blue silk linen over boards, ruled along borders, gorgeous gilt lettering to front cover, to spine, spine being sunned to a purple, and then housed in a simple, structurally sound slip-case, also sunned to purple along the edges. François d'Orléans, a.k.a. Prince de Joinville, was born in 1818 and died in 1900, having been the third son of King Louis, famous for having conveyed the corpse of Napoleon and for painting at least 35 watercolors. Aquarelles peintes par le Prince de Joinville lors de son séjour aux Etats-Unis d'Amérique dans l'armée du Général McClellan pendant la guerre de Sécession (1861-1862). Avec une préface de Monseigneur le Comte de Paris et des textes d'André Maurois, et du Général James Gavin.
