REMINGTON MODEL 1863 "SPLIT BREECH" CARBINE TYPE I
#45XX. Caliber 46 Rimfire Standard 20" Round Barrel. Gun retains about 95% of Original blue finish. About 50% of color case on frame and buttplate. Wood is fine with a some handling and storage marks. Nice inspector's cartouche "CGC" Charles G. Curtis Remington .46 and .50 Caliber Split Breech Carbines Inspector (he also inspected Henry Rifles!), vertically stamped on left side of buttstock. Action perfect. U.S. contract in 1864 for 5.000 guns. 3600 were bought back by Remington from U.S. Government in 1870 and sold entire lot to France for use in the Franco-Prussian War.
