U.S. MODEL 1872 MODIFIED HAGNER No.1 CARTRIDGE BOX

Modified Hagner No.1 Cartridge box converted from Cal; 50/70 Govt. to 45/70 Govt. THis modificatuion was done at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1876. The conversion of 50 caliber to 45 caliber was cleverly done by the leather strip modification. The box has a capacity of 24 Cartridges in three rows of eight. "U.S." marked in an oval center-embossed on the front of the box. Between the tops of the 2 belt loops a partial visible No.1 is present. MIlitary inspector's initials "R.K" are stamped on the closing tab. Right side of box is bulged to hold a gun tool. These boxes were used in the Indian Wars. This is a desirable box in Fine + condition.
