U.S. MODEL 1859 PERCUSSION REVOLVER CARTRIDGE BOX
Civil War Model 1859 Pistol Cartridge Box. Made from 1861 to 1865. Stamped on box body under closing tab brass rivet "J. Davy & Co. N.J" (J. Davy was a Government contractor who manufactured many quality leather goods during the Civil War). The box also has the "U.S" Government stamp on the right lower side of the flap and the ordnance inspector's name T.J. Shepard denoting Regular Army use. (T.J. Shepard was the accoutrement Inspector at the Springfield Armory) Stamps are only parlially visible but are present and correct. Size Flap 6 1/4", box body 5 1/2". Carried up tp six-round packets of .36 or .44 cartridges. These boxes saw use in the in the Regular Army and state militia from the Civil War era trough the 1870's. Would be a great companion for a Civil War Military revolver. Box in overall very goodt condition!!
