MODEL 1880 CAVALRY OFFICERS BALDRIC AND CARTRIDGE BOX
Circa 1880 Cavalry Officer's Baldric and Cartridge Box. Nicely marked on the face of the box under the flap, "Henry V. Allien & Co./ New York" (Military goods dealer 1858-1947). His name will be found on swords, buttons, epaulettes and leather equipment. The 2¼" wide heavy black leather baldric has some areas of wear and 2 professional restorations on the leather belt (one near the belt buckle, the second in the middle of the belt). Otherwise in very overall fine sound condition. Heavy brass buckle, adjusting loop and tip all perfect. The brass bound cartridge box about perfect with original large brass crossed sabers and company letter " A " on the front flap and a number "147" stamped at the end of the baldric near the brass end. Nice example of a scarce Indian War period cavalry officer's piece of equipment, part of a dress uniform.. Ref. Meadows P.388.
