#390. Cal.36 Sharps Mule Ear Cartridge. 28" Brown Barrel, with a casehardened frame. Marked C. SHARPS & Co PHILADA PA. on left sideplate. Falling block action. Breech block for the "Sharps Mule Ear Cartridge". Patent rear sight, brass blade front sight. Serial number stamped on upper tang. Mechanically perfect with a bright excellent bore The walnut buttstock and forend have 95% original finish remaining, nice raised grain and just the few normal light handling marks from the years There a small hairline crack near the upper tang on the right side, has been professionally restored and is hardly visible, just a bit of discoloration. Condition of gun is excellent plus. It retains about 92% of its total overall finish. Manufactured in 1856 (REF. Roy Marcot). According to Flayderman, these weapons are not only scarce and unusual with a total prouction of about 600, but also very difficult to find and are highly prized by collectors. Worthy of the finest collection of antique American arms! We have rarely offered one for sale, certainly never owned one in this condition!!!
