NEW YORK MILITIA HELMET PLATE
A vintage and original New York Hemet/ Cap Plate-Brass NY National Guard 10th Regiment with a NY State coat of arms, dating to the 1880's, and "mounted on an original card from "Bannerman Arms Dealer" (Francis Bannerman Sons billed itself "correctly, no doubt!" as “the largest dealer in the world in military goods.”). This helmet badge was issued to the 10th NYNG Infantry Regiment. These Shako plates were worn from the 1880s to the early 1900's. The helmet plate measures 3-1/2" long and 3-1/4" wide. It is made from brass with German nickel numerals (10). The state motto is written on a scroll at the bottom (Excelsior). A nice item for a Indian Wars, Spanish American War, National Guard Militia military collection. Excellent condition.
