SHARPS MODEL 1853 SLANT BREECH CARBINE
#145XX. Cal. 52 Percussion. Sharps pellet primer system. Standard 21 1/2" round barrel. Gun has a nice brown grey patina finish. Stock and forearm in excellent condtion. Standard correct front and rear sight. Mechanically perfect with a very fine bore. Has an assembly number 1126 on the patchbox. Being an early military type Model 1853, it has the 9 inch sling ring bar and brass mountings This Model was also called "The John Brown Model", 400 guns of this type were delivered to this famous abolitionist in the mid 1850's, unfortunately this one is not on the known list of John Brown purchased guns, A total of about 10.500 of this model were manufactured during 1854 and 1857. This carbine was probably made in december 1854. The gun is in a Very Fine plus condition! A decent Model 1853 carbine is very hard to find!
