COLT MODEL 1884 MEDIUM FRAME BABY CARBINE
#58XXX. Cal. 44 CLMR. "Baby Carbine"! Standard 20" Round Barrel". Retaining 92% original blue and 95% colour case present on hammer. Address on the barrel: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT. 18.83 MAY 26.85.JUNE 15.86. FEB. 22. 87. The "Baby Carbine" was made with slimmer and lighter barrels than the standard carbines, even the small front block sight was half the size of the regular one. Overall weight was 5 1/4lbs, as compared to the 6 1/4lbs on the standard model. The carbine has a small ivory inlet in the bottom of the butstock. These lighter carbines were manufactured in much more limited numbers than the standard rifles and carbines. It is a model sought by collectors, seldom found in this condition! Made in 1891.
